We are proud to announce that our client, Matthew Fagenstrom, has successfully obtained his U.S. Certificate of Citizenship. Matthew, adopted from Colombia by a U.S. citizen mother, believed for years that he was already a U.S. citizen. However, he recently discovered that the process was never completed. Barrera Legal Group was able to step in and help Matthew navigate the complex legal requirements for citizenship.
In most cases, children adopted abroad under an IR-4 immigrant visa need to be readopted in the U.S. to acquire citizenship. However, because Matthew’s adoptive mother resided in Oregon, a state that recognizes foreign adoptions as full and final, we successfully argued that a readoption was not necessary. With the right legal approach and supporting evidence, Matthew’s citizenship was finally approved, and he received his long-awaited Certificate of Citizenship.
